Youth Engagement Leader – Evening & Overnight - Supervisor

Location: Ottawa, ON 

Pay: $3,740 per week, amounting to $11,220 total for the three weeks 

Hours: 47.5 hours per week, plus 8 hours training

The Forum for Young Canadians, organized and run by the Rideau Hall Foundation, is dedicated to educating, equipping, and inspiring young Canadians to engage meaningfully in civic life. Over three weeks in February and March 2026, the Forum will host its National Summit in Ottawa, welcoming over 300 students over three weeks (100 - 120 students aged 15-18 per week) for an immersive, hands-on experience like no other.

The Democratic Engagement Exchange at Toronto Metropolitan University is working with the Rideau Hall Foundation to program evening activities and ensure the safety and well being of all participants throughout the evening and overnight.

Job Role

We are seeking two Youth Engagement Supervisors to oversee and support the Evening & Overnight Youth Engagement Leaders during the Forum for Young Canadians National Summit. This leadership role ensures the safety, well-being, and effective engagement of all participants while providing guidance and mentorship to the team of Evening & Overnight Leaders. Supervisors will act as the first point of contact for any issues or emergencies during their assigned overnight shift. This role offers a unique opportunity to combine youth mentorship, program leadership, and civic engagement, while ensuring a safe and empowering environment for Canada’s emerging young changemakers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and support Youth Engagement Leaders during evening and overnight shifts, ensuring they follow Rideau Hall Foundation safeguarding policies.

  • Act as the first point of contact for any issues, emergencies, or urgent concerns during assigned overnight shifts.

  • Ensure the overall safety and well-being of all participants throughout the evening and overnight programming.

  • Mentor and guide the team of Youth Engagement Leaders, providing clear direction, support, and feedback.

  • Lead the in-person training session for Youth Engagement Leaders, ensuring they are prepared for their roles.

  • Monitor and supervise the hotel floors where participants are staying during overnight hours, checking in regularly with floor leaders to ensure all participants are safe, responding to any disruptions or emergencies, and maintaining a calm and secure environment.

  • Administer and dispense participant medication as directed, maintaining accurate records and ensuring confidentiality and proper storage.

  • Serve as the first responder for any health or medical emergencies, providing initial care in line with first aid training and coordinating further assistance when necessary.

  • Supervise the facilitation of evening activities, helping leaders engage participants and ensure smooth execution of planned events.

  • Collaborate closely with the Program Manager to address concerns, share updates, and coordinate team coverage.

  • Foster an inclusive, welcoming, and empowering environment for all participants.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age: 24 years

  • Valid police record check, interview, and reference checks required

  • Previous experience working at Forum for Young Canadians, preferably in a supervisory role

  • Significant experience in a leadership role with youth, such as youth programming, camp counseling, or related fields

  • Familiarity with child protection and safeguarding practices

  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, particularly in urgent or high-pressure situations

  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and discretion

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and remain calm in emergencies

  • Certified in Standard First Aid Level C (preferred but not essential)

  • Bilingual English/French (preferred but not essential)

Compensation:  

$3,740 per week, amounting to $11,220 total for the three weeks 

  • Two daily meals provided during shift hours, breakfast and dinner

  • Hotel accommodations are provided during each program week (five nights, Sunday to Friday).

When You’ll Need To Be Available:

We are seeking Youth Engagement Leader Supervisors who can commit to the training day and to all three sessions.

Training Day: Saturday, February 7 (time tbd)

Session 1: Sunday, February 8 - Friday, February 13, 2026

Session 2: Sunday, March 8 - Friday, March 13, 2026

Session 3: Sunday, March 22 - Friday, March 27, 2026

Training:

  • 3 hours for online safeguarding training prior to Forum

  • 5 hours of in person training on Saturday, February 7th  

Hours:

  • The Youth Engagement Leader Supervisor role begins Sunday at 4:30 PM and ends Friday morning.

  • All Leaders are required to work the evening shift from 4:30 PM – 11:00 PM daily. Overnight duties are divided into two three-hour shifts:

    • 11:00 PM – 2:00 AM

    • 2:00 AM – 5:00 AM

  • Each Leader will be assigned one overnight shift per night.

  • Each Leader works a total of 9.5 hours per day
