Pay: $27 per hour

Hours: 24 hours total (18 program hours + 6 training hours)

Join the AKFC Youth Leadership Academy team as part of our Arrivals & Departures Team and be the first and last face our participants see, ensuring a seamless, safe, and exciting welcome and send-off for youth traveling from across the country. 

The Youth Leadership Academy, organized and run by the Aga Khan Foundation Canada, is dedicated to educating, equipping, and inspiring young Canadians to engage meaningfully with global issues and foster global citizenship. From July 27-31, 2026, AKFC will host its fully funded, 5-day in-person convening at York University, welcoming passionate young leaders for an immersive, collaborative, and hands-on experience. 

The Democratic Engagement Exchange at Toronto Metropolitan University is partnering with AKFC to support participant care, safety, and logistics. This includes delivering evening activities and overnight supervision, as well as collaborating on daytime operations, arrivals and departures, and health support.

Job Role

The Arrivals & Departures Assistant is part of a dedicated team responsible for managing the peak travel windows of the academy. This role is highly youth-facing and focuses on executing participant check-ins, campus room assignments, orientation support, and coordinated departure travel logistics to ensure a safe and organized experience from start to finish. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet youth participants arriving at travel hubs or on campus, assist with registration, distribute welcome packages, and facilitate initial intake processes.

  • Assist participants with luggage and help coordinate residence room assignments

  • Help guide participants through campus navigation and orientation activities 

  • Assist with verifying participant departure schedules, help facilitate room check-outs, and escort participants safely to designated transportation hubs for their return travel. 

  • Work closely with the core logistics team to monitor arrival/departure delays and maintain accurate, real-time participant manifest logs.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age: 25 years.

  • Valid police record check, interview, and reference checks are required.

  • Prior experience working with youth (aged 15–18) in camp counseling, youth programming, recreational, or educational settings. 

  • Experience in customer service, hospitality, event registration, or crowd management is considered a strong asset. 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to provide an enthusiastic, reassuring presence for young travelers (aged 15–18).

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when managing lists, schedules, and keys.

  • Adaptable and resourceful when handling travel delays or logistical changes on the fly.

Compensation:  

$27.00 per hour (for 18 program operational hours and 6 training hours).

When You’ll Need To Be Available:

We are seeking Arrivals & Departures Assistants who can commit to the training requirements and the four operational days of the program. Because this role is focused entirely on travel windows, shifts are concentrated around the opening and closing days of the academy. 

Training Day: Saturday, July 25, 2026

Arrival Day: Sunday, July 26

Departure Days: Friday, July 31 and Saturday, August 1

Training:

  • 3 hours for online safeguarding training prior to Forum

  • 5 hours of in person training on Saturday, February 7th  

Hours:

Shifts are primarily daytime hours, with daily start and end times varying based on arrivals, departures, and program needs. Exact schedule to be confirmed.
