Youth Engagement Leader – Evening & Overnight

Pay: $2,500 flat rate (1 week contract)
Hours: 55 hours per week, plus 8 hours training

Do you have strong leadership skills, a passion for mentorship, and an interest in supporting meaningful national programs for youth? Join the AKFC Youth Leadership Academy team as a Youth Engagement Leader and help build a safe, inclusive, and empowering evening and overnight experience for participants from across the country.
The Youth Leadership Academy, organized and run by the Aga Khan Foundation Canada, is dedicated to educating, equipping, and inspiring young Canadians to engage meaningfully with global issues and foster global citizenship. From July 27-31, 2026, AKFC will host its fully funded, 5-day in-person convening at York University, welcoming passionate young leaders for an immersive, collaborative, and hands-on experience.
The Democratic Engagement Exchange at Toronto Metropolitan University is partnering with AKFC to support participant care, safety, and logistics. This includes delivering evening activities and overnight supervision, as well as collaborating on daytime operations, arrivals and departures, and health support.
Job Role
This role offers a unique opportunity to combine youth mentorship, program leadership, and civic education. You will actively guide and support participants, facilitating activities that help them develop leadership skills and engage meaningfully in civic life.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and facilitate prepared evening social activities, chaperone youth participants during off-site experiences, and intentionally ensure all youth feel included, welcome, and safe.
Stay on-site at the campus residence with participants, monitoring the environment and responding effectively to any issues or operational needs during the evening and overnight hours.
Strictly follow AKFC’s safeguarding and child protection policies to maintain a physically and emotionally secure environment for participants.
Assist youth with daily attendance and program preparedness, and provide dedicated on-site support for any participants temporarily unable to engage in regular programming.
Report any behavioral, medical, or situational issues promptly and collaborate closely with on-site leadership to address and resolve concerns as they arise.
Qualifications:
Minimum age: 25 years.
Valid police record check, interview, and reference checks are required
Experience leading youth programming, camp counseling, coaching young people or related fields (Required)
Familiarity with child protection and safeguarding practices
Proven ability to address and respond to concerns appropriately and with sensitivity
Clear and empathetic communication, with the ability to handle sensitive or urgent situations with care, discretion, and professionalism
Proven ability to work effectively within a dynamic staff team, coordinate smooth shift handovers, and maintain consistent communication with daytime personnel
Certified in Standard First Aid Level C (preferred but not essential)
Compensation:
$2,500 for one week
55 hours for the week and 8 hours training
Two daily meals provided during shift hours, breakfast and dinner
Accommodation provided during the program
When You’ll Need To Be Available:
We are seeking a Youth Engagement Leader who can commit to the training requirements and the full week of the program.
Training Day: Saturday, July 25, 2026
Program: Sunday, July 26 - Friday, July 31, 2026
Training:
2 hours for online safeguarding training prior to Academy
6 hours of in person training on Saturday, July 25th
Shifts/Hours:
Total of five 11-hour shifts (55 hours total)
Shift Time: 4:30 PM to 8:00 AM
Overnight Split Breakdown:
First Half: 4:30 PM – 11:00 PM
Overnight Split: 11:00 PM – 3:30 AM / 3:30 AM – 8:00 AM
